Offices located in Bayport and Minneapolis, Minnesota Meghan S. Johnson focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning and business law. She designs both simple and complex estate plans that are individually tailored to meet a client's goals of probate avoidance, estate tax planning, incapacity planning and harmonious family co-ownership of cabins and businesses. Meghan assists business clients with formation of limited liability companies, corporations, nonprofit corporations and tax-exempt corporations. Meghan provides ongoing representation to business clients in designing and reviewing contracts, business purchases and sales and planning for business succession. Meghan is a resource on family cabin planning. She was recently quoted in an article that appeared in The Wall Street Journal and the Minneapolis Star Tribune on the topic of planning to preserve family cabins. Meghan routinely drafts estate plans that include trusts for minor children, credit shelter trusts and Inherited IRA Trusts. She is regularly involved in analysis of estate tax planning and lifetime gifting. Meghan is experienced in special planning for disabled beneficiaries using Supplemental Needs Trust and Special Needs Trusts. She crafts plans suitable for blended families, elderly clients and non-traditional families. She routinely drafts and reviews antenuptial agreements. Meghan works compassionately with families after the death of a family member to ensure that the estate plan is carried out according to the client's wishes. Meghan obtained a bachelor's degree in English Education-Communication Arts and Literature, Magna Cum Laude from Bemidji State University in 2002, and received her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul in 2006. During law school, Meghan served as a student attorney in the William Mitchell Civil Advocacy Clinic and was successful in appealing a case before the Minnesota Court of Appeals. She received the CALI award in Education Law. She was admitted to practice in Minnesota in 2006 and in Wisconsin in 2012. She is a member of the Stillwater Lions Club, the Washington County Bar Association and the Minnesota Bar Association.
